Donations in Lieu of Flowers

If you wish to make a donation to JPS's chosen charity in lieu of flowers, please can donations be made to The Foundation for Liver Research.

About

At some time during their life, one in ten people will have a problem with their liver.

The Foundation for Liver Research is dedicated to funding innovative research programmes to address the challenge of liver disease, leading to the development of better treatment strategies and improved patient care.

Why donations are needed?

In the UK there are approximately 5,000 deaths each year from cirrhosis and chronic liver disease. Cirrhosis is now responsible for more female deaths than cervical cancer, more male deaths than Parkinson's Disease and is one of the top ten causes of death in the Western world.

In addition to cirrhosis and liver cancer, rates of infection with the hepatitis B and C viruses are rising and increased rates of obesity are leading to a higher incidence of Non-alcoholic Steato-hepatitis (NASH).

For these and conditions of a possible auto-immune nature, such as Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, better treatments need to be developed.

Where donations are spent

The Foundation scientists are working alongside doctors to develop new therapies to tackle the many and increasing challenges of liver disease. Areas of research currently funded include liver and bile duct cancer, antiviral drugs for chronic hepatitis, acute liver failure and liver transplantation.

Where to Donate

When making the donation please give JPS's details and they will record this on their database.
